Here we present a new feature, the Director's
Chair, an ongoing blog from Bert Miller, Artistic
Director for ACT.

As we begin work on the last show of this season, we are already gearing up for our 2015 theater
season here at ACT. This will be our 7th year of providing quality entertainment in Auburn, Kansas.
Who would have thought when I wrote that first children’s play to bring in some money for the
community center that it would grow into this?
The exciting news is that we just received our determination letter from the IRS. ACT is now officially
considered a public charity by the IRS. We join the ranks of organizations with 501(c )3 status. For
you, this means you can make donations to our theater and they are all tax deductible. If you give us
money, or anything of monetary value, you can deduct that as a charitable donation from your income
tax. It’s a win-win situation for you and for us. Secondly, this opens up the door for us to solicit grant
funding from other foundations and establishments. In this way, we can seek to improve our theater by
receiving arts donations that will help us in so many ways.
For the current season, we’ve just cast “Blame It on the Movies!”
songs from motion pictures that you remember over the past
century. They have everything from songs prior to World War II up to
the 1990s. It’s quite a span of time and music. And as always we’re
trying to do a few new and different theatrical techniques that we’ve
not done at ACT before. Come and be impressed (I don’t want to
spoil the surprise).
For next year we are planning two musicals. Our first will be
“Godspell” in February. You won’t want to miss this classic retelling
of the gospel according to St. Matthew in modern song. The
second musical will be in August and we are bringing back those
crazy nuns from Mt. St. Helen’s School, the Little Sisters of
Hobokan in “Nunsense II: the Second Coming.” They sing, they
dance, they play bingo! You won’t want to miss the fun. We’re
throwing in a murder mystery thriller in November (Night Watch) and
a door slamming farce in May (Boeing Boeing) and you have
another year of fun and frolic.
We have a few other ideas of fun things we can throw in on the
side, just to spice up our year of entertainment. So don’t miss the
fun, come join us at ACT! Be watching for our new season brochure
in the next month!
